With the holiday season and the winters reigning heavily on people’s minds, high-end liquor seems to be a part of most people’s shopping list. After the recently unveiled 1980 Glenlivet Cellar Collection, it’s time for unveiling the world’s oldest whisky liqueur; Master of Malt- 55 years. Sherry casked and matured over half a century, this bottle of liqueur will be what the classic scotch lovers would like to enjoy, especially if looking at something which retains the beverage’s original flavors, even when blending beautifully to a variety of others.
Describing the nose of the whisky, experts say that it has a beautiful vintage touch of Sherry cask maturity that lends strong elements into the aroma. Also unfolding with it are subtle elements manuka honey, nutmeg, ginger, cloves with even finer elements of pine and white truffle. On the other hand, the palette has generous parts of white truffles and sage butter, with juicy barley malt, freshly ground black pepper, nutmeg and ginger spices. Also, during the finishing these spice elements leave a stronger memory of their individual flavors, and remind the drinker of what their importance within the beverage actually is. Looking at the rather complex, yet subtle and varied blended flavors, it would be best to have it over a longer period of time so that 55 years of aging can cast its magic.
However, be prepared to shell out $1,562 (£995) for each of these bottles. Though the distillery was established in 1985, some of its casks in its distilleries are known to have beverages far older than that. Seems like they have unveiled another of their much needed ‘magic’ bottles to enchant scotch lovers. Also, do take a look at the Illy Expresso liqueur if hunting for other flavor options.
