Founded by Amy Pressman and Nancy Silverton of neighboring Short Order Burger, Short Cake will open this Friday morning, December 16 at 9 a.m. in The Original Famer’s Market in Fairfax.
For the debut, Short Cake will offer samples of sweet and savory treats along with the shop’s single-origin, pour-over coffee from Nik Krankl (Silverton’s nephew and owner of the coffee bar Taste of Boston).
Sadly, Pressman passed away this fall, but on Sunday, co-founder Silverton will personally draw in the crowds at Short Cake by making an appearance to sign The Mozza Cookbook from noon to 2 p.m. at the bakery.
Despite Pressman’s absence in the opening of Short Cake, Silverton plans to fulfill their vision and planning. The bakery is now in the hands of former Anisette and La Brea Bakery bakers, Hourie Sahakian and Ramon Ramirez. The entire team has been working hard for months to create a line of freshly baked sweet and savory pastries, including treats like cookies, muffins, quiches, scones, break pudding and bars that employ local artisan products like Straus butter and milk, preserves from SQIRL and chocolate from Tcho.
You can now almost count the hours until you’ll be able to taste specialty decorated short cakes with flavors like chocolate cardamom cream, apple cider spice, and chiffon with orange curd and meringue, along with personal-sized sweet pies. If you’re more of a savory person, lunch and dinner items include quiches with bacon, leek and comte, quiche with Swiss chard and fennel, bacon and cheddar croissants, ham and cheese tartines, turkey and wild mushroom tartines and bun break pudding with spinach and mushrooms.
Short Cake will start serving the masses this Friday starting at 9 a.m and will remain open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. It is located at The Original Famers Market, 6333 W. 3rd Street. Stall #316, Los Angeles (323-761-7976).
