IWC 2012 TOP GUN MIRAMAR PILOT'S WATCH

Here's a ruggedly handsome new timepiece for the high-flier: IWC's 2012 Top Gun Miramar chronograph pilot's watch, a patriotic homage to the land—and skies—of the brave and free.
Horological trendseekers, get ready for take-off: IWC Schaffhausen itself has declared this year to be the year of the Pilot's Watch. The Top Gun Miramar, named after the famous Californian air base from which the myth of the so-called "top gun" elite pilot arose, boasts a 48mm grey ceramic case housing the Swiss manufacture's in-house calibre 89365. Other high-tech touches include the use of titanium for the caseback and controls, and a matte anthracite dial.

Aesthetics-wise, the muted, camouflage colors of the dial, beige for the hands and chapter ring and khaki for the textile strap all lend the watch a decidedly masculine, military feel. Uncompromisingly geared towards flight navigation, in which priority is given to optimum legibility of the seconds and minutes, the IWC Top Gun Miramar displays the hours in a red inner-ring.
With a flyback function and analogue display for stopped minutes and seconds, the new pilot's watch is, as Karoline Huber, Director Marketing & Communications at IWC says, "addressing watch lovers who consciously embrace IWC’s long-standing tradition of manufacturing Pilot’s Watches but who also wish to benefit from the technological advances of the 21st century and the inimitable quality typical of IWC."
