If it’s expensive, you know it’s caught our eye. So when the Economist Intelligence Unit’s latest Worldwide Cost of Living Survey announced the world’s most expensive cities to live in, we were all ears. So here’s what the survey reveals. Creating a record of sorts, the beautiful city of Zurich has toppled Tokyo to take the title of the world’s most expensive city to live, for the first time in twenty years. While Tokyo settles at number two, another Swiss city has made it in the top five of this list. Yes, at number three in this list is Geneva. The heavy investment in the Swiss franc can be attributed to this sudden upswing in the cost of living in Switzerland.
Cities like Mumbai and Delhi in India and Karachi in Pakistan make it to the bottom five of this list due to the cheap land and labor costs. However, a number of cities from the Asia-Pacific region like Sydney and Melbourne make it in the top ten. Surprisingly Hong Kong does not figure in the top 10 and is ranked at number 22.
