Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2011 Galuchat Collection

Well, it's that time of year again ~ the Spring Summer 2011 Collection. Let's start off with the Galuchat Line. Just a quick background, GALUCHAT is the skin of various fish such as small sharks, spotted dogfish and skate. Under Louis XV it was dyed and used to cover certain luxury objects (very appropriate for LV). It returned to fashion in 1910 and between 1925-50 when it was used by cabinet makers like Clément Rousseau to cover entire pieces of furniture.
The above photo is the Art Nouveau . Crafted out of stingray and ostrich leather which is further embellished with Swarowski crystals, this Minaudiere has a $11,000 price tag. I bet it is a by- deposit only piece. Below is the relatively lower priced Maestria at $4840. It comes in Fuschia, Amethyst and Grenat (not shown). It too is made out of stingray. In all my years of blogging I think this is the first time that Louis Vuitton is using this skin. I know it has been popular in the fashion industry for quite sometime now due to the transluscent finish that stingray gives to a piece.

My favourite feature of these evening clutches is the black hardware. Very much like the So Black that Hermès has released for its Fall Winter Season 2010. I wonder if they used PVD coating as well. Notice that the Maestria Amethyst photo below from style.com has a stingray covered hardware. I guess LV scratched that out for its final production. LVoe, LVoe, LVoe it!!!
