When the final episode of season two of The City aired, it was implied that Louise Roe, the gorgeous It-Brit hired to contend with Olivia Palermo, would be pursuing other endeavors and would not be back for season three.
But according to Roe at today's Rebecca Taylor show, nothing is final. "We're kind of still waiting to hear," she said of her possible return to MTV. Not that she doesn't have a lot else going on at the moment. Straight after Fashion Week, she is heading back to L.A. to start her latest gig. "Access Hollywood has a new daily morning show that is about to go live and I'll be doing makeovers for that," she explained. Undoubtedly, this latest venture will utilize the experience she garnered while filming her makeover show for the CW, Plain Jane.
Since Roe's expertise lies in revamping wardrobes, I thought I'd ask if she has any one style tip that stands out above the rest. "Most women have some kind of a waist and adding a belt always helps," said Roe. "Just don't be shy of your curves. No one, except for models, looks perfect so you just use what you've got and rock it."

As expected, the Whitney Eve show downtown on Saturday night felt less about the accomplishments of a young designer and more about trying to figure out what angle the crews from The City were working as they trailed Whitney Port through the room. When we last saw La Port chewing on her lip and staring off into middle distance to the beat of sickeningly hip music, she was deciding whether or not to leave the figurative womb of Kelly Cutrone's People's Revolution for the more aggressively pink representation of Alison Brod. After some cunning detective work, we're guessing Brod was the answer: There was a giant boom mike suspended over her head for most of the night as she carried on energetic conversations and made introductions for Whitney, and a camera was trained on her face. What can we say? We notice things, you know?
Port and Brod did throw a nice party: The models arranged themselves on a lit dais along one wall, with a bar tucked off to the left serving mint juleps, and a table of iced cake bites and tiny waffle cones piped full of brightly colored frosting. We overheard Port's City castmate, Bergdorf's buyer Samantha, up-talking with her friends ("Alexander Wang? Is fabulous?") while wearing a black Whitney Eve dress and a stark, messy topknot, the likes of which ought to be paired with a smudged smock and have paintbrushes sticking out of it. A handful of vaguely familiar, vaguely attractive dudes who could've been any one of Whitney's TV boyfriends paraded through the venue as well — one of whom actually was her current squeeze, Ben Nemtin of MTV's The Buried Life. And British personality Louise Roe, who swung by The City this past season to strike professional fear into the heart of villainess Olivia Palermo, showed up to hug and kiss Port, and also to wear a beige bowler hat. Olivia herself, obviously, was nowhere to be found, but we're sure she would've been hatless at least. That's a point for her.
Port, in a fairly awkward olive satin jumpsuit that cinched around the ankles (which, in fairness, did hang well on her, perhaps because she has the figure of a model herself), maintained a very humble and pensive demeanor as she gave interviews about the clothes. She said she looked to her friends for inspiration, and modeled her line after "a girl who wants to follow her dreams, but look good doing it," which sounds like pleasant fashion code for, "I basically just tried really hard not to make it ugly." But Whitney balked when a reporter asked how it felt now that she's made it. "I'm still just trying to get my line out there, to get it seen," Port insisted. "I haven't made it yet, by any means." Then she glanced absently over at her models during the next question. "Sorry, I had to check on my models," she apologized. "They're starting to droop a bit." Aw. Wherever Kelly Cutrone may have been tonight — we didn't see her at the party while we were there — at least she taught her girl well.

This is the first I've heard mention of 'The City' or of any filming in months! This made my week and hopefully yours too : )

Describe your typical workday.
I never have a typical one! Right now I’m filming Plain Jane. I get up at 5 a.m. I have hair, make-up, and smoothies at my house before we hit the road for a day’s shooting on location in LA. I change three times a day for scenes, so we bring lots of shoes and dresses on the road with us too!
If you could work anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I’m lucky that I get to travel a lot. I love LA, New York, and London. But I’m hoping to hit Sydney soon because I used to live there.


How would you describe your workspace?
I write my column from a white lacquer desk at home- lots of light around me, Diptyque’s Figuier candle, and a bunch of magazines!
What is one “work item” you can’t live without?
My red Smythson diary. I’m a pen and paper girl.
If you could switch careers for a day, what would you do?
A show jumper! I love horse-back riding and used to do a lot of it.
You have so much going on; can you give us one tip on how you keep it all together?
Lists! I’m an obsessive list-maker and have a pad and pen by my bed. I also know when to relax and switch off. Best friends and gin and tonics are a huge part of my routine. :)
What are 3 things fans don’t know about you?
1. I’m a geek and love poetry.
2. I randomly cuddle and squeeze people a lot.
3. I can do a bunch of different accents!

As we’ve watched Erin Kaplan, the California transplant who's Elle’s PR director, on “The City,” it’s clear that she has learned a couple of things since the last season. First, make sure that the cameras get your fabulous shoes. And second, everyone loves an evil awesome plan. Her plan to oust Olivia Palermo from Elle may not have gone the way she wanted, but she tells us that things will be different next season.
“I think I have taken a bit of a backseat in the past,” Kaplan tells Show Tracker. “But if I’m back, there will definitely be changes!”
We talked to Kaplan about some of the highlights and lowlights of this season, and, of course, what she thought of the finale episode.
In the beginning of this season, you and Olivia made a truce. What happened to that?
In that episode, they actually didn’t air it, but I apologized. And it took a lot for me to apologize, but I did. I said I’m sorry if we got off on the wrong foot and if I offended her in any way, I’m sorry. And we did. We kind of decided to move on. And then she just kind of went back to the same old thing that she had been doing. You know, not showing up for work and assignments. I don’t think she had any intention of changing.
At least Joe Zee came around this season. Were you glad that he was seeing some of the stuff you pointed out about Olivia last season?
I think the degree to which she failed this season was just taken to a whole new level. You had to be blind not to see what was happening. I guess I kind of felt vindicated a little bit. But at the same time, what she did – not showing up for a photo shoot – was just, I mean I’ve never seen anything like it. So, I would hope that action would be taken after something like that.
Was it nice to have someone to conspire with in assistant Seth?
First of all, what you see is obviously a condensed version of my relationship with Olivia and my relationship with Seth. Seth and I have conversations that are 45 minutes long, and 40 seconds might get into the episode. Sometimes they’re taken out of context. Sometimes we’re talking about other things and happen to mention her. So, Seth and I, by no means 100% sit around the office scheming and plotting and drawing up maps and doing these elaborate plans at all. I think that it’s the way that it’s shown sometimes. I don’t think we’re that evil.
Is Olivia Palermo really as unpleasant as she comes off on TV?
I think we've spent an enormous amount of time filming since the beginning of December. I think the show magnifies our personalities, but I don’t think they’re ever showing us as something that we’re not. They only air the footage that we give them. You know if we say certain things, they air it. I don’t think any of us have been too poorly portrayed.
That was very diplomatic.
I’m saying it through gritted teeth, I might add.
We know that being part of New York society can be just as important as one’s experience. Have Olivia’s connections been outweighed by her poor performance at Elle yet?
I don’t think I was ever enchanted by her. And regardless of her contacts or what she does, it really has no bearing on my job. Like you said, I did come here. I worked for my job and I continue, and the magazine is by far the most important thing I can do right now. I don’t think that is ever going to change. Even if I had the luxury of not working or relying solely on my contacts, I wouldn’t want to do that. I enjoy working. I enjoy working for Elle, and would want to work regardless.
We don’t appreciate it when Olivia turns around when you’re talking. Don’t you just want to pull her hair when she does that?
Yes, she does turn around while I’m talking. Aside from it being disrespectful and rude and just Human Decency 101, we’re filming a television show. There are cameras around. We’re actually being paid to talk. So, for her to just not engage is bizarre, to say the very least.
After your meeting with Joe Zee, when you pushed once more for Louise Roe, did you feel confident he'd pick her?
Not at all. I really didn’t have any idea what he was going to do. He obviously knew how I felt, and at that point the decision was completely out of my hands.
Now that you've seen Olivia in Japan, what do you think of her performance? Was that enough to warrant being the face of Elle?
I had heard that she was doing really, really well in Japan — really producing. I thought she was going to come back with videos for the website, interviews, photos, etc. — when I finally watched the episode, I was a bit confused. I had to watch it twice because I thought I had missed a pivotal scene.
After Joe Zee announced she had the job, I can’t believe Olivia said to you, "Erin, are you OK with that?" Did you just want to punch her?
No, I actually expected that type of response, but trust me, a lot of things ran through my mind at that moment!
Didn't Joe Zee overhear Seth telling you that if you didn't want to leave before, you may now?
I’m not sure. Of course, I wasn’t thrilled with the outcome, but I love my job and would never, ever leave Elle because of Olivia.
