Is Lauren Conrad's Book LA Candy Headed for Television?

By Whitney English
Business savvy Lauren Conrad hit Fashion’s Night Out to promote her new clothing line Paper Crown, and dropped a hint about the future of her popular book, “L.A. Candy.”
Former Hills star Lauren Conrad has segued her successful reality career into a full-time job as a fashion designer, author, and now possibly a prime time producer.
Lauren told SheKnows Thursday night at her Paper Crown launch that her bestselling book series, L.A. Candy, will in fact not be hitting the big screen, despite past plans to do so.
“Let’s see, what can I say?” L.C. carefully worded her response to us. “It will not be a movie.”
Lauren’s company, Blue Eyed productions, bought the rights to the screenplay and she was quoted in 2010 saying the movie was in its “early stages.”
But Candy fans need not fret. You may actually get more out of this than expected.
“We are exploring options in television,” Lauren told SheKnows.
That means multiple episodes instead of just one film…we say sweet deal!
I'm so excited about the prospect of a television series! I would love to see LA Candy on ABC Family right next to Pretty Little Liars and Switched At Birth! I think the network would be the perfect fit for both Lauren and the series. What do you think?

Lauren Conrad Signs Three Book Deal for LA Candy Spin-off called The Fame Game

Lauren Conrad -- whose debut teen novel, L.A. Candy, hit No. 1 on a New York Times bestseller list -- just scored another three-book deal with HarperCollins, she tells UsMagazine.com exclusively.
Called The Fame Game, the Hills alum's upcoming trilogy is set in the reality TV universe, and features Madison Parker, an ambitious, ruthless character from the L.A. Candy series who's ready to become a star in her own right. In her way? Backstabbing family friends, dogged paparazzi and one media scandal after the next!
"We took the mean girl of the [L.A. Candy books], spinning her off," Conrad, 25, tells Us of The Fame Game's tough protagonist Madison.
"This series is about a girl who loves everything that fame is, and that's all she's ever really wanted," Conrad explains. "[Madison] has fun with the press, she enjoys the attention, she welcomes scandal!"
If Madison sounds familiar (Heidi Montag, perhaps?), Conrad assures Us her characters aren't based on anyone real. "No. We have fun with it! We kind of take [Hollywood] stereotypes.

With a clothing empire to run as well (her third line debuts this fall), when does Conrad write?
"Between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.," Conrad tells Us. "My phone doesn't ring, and there's nothing on TV!"
Is Conrad's longtime beau, actor Kyle Howard, an L.A. Candy devotee? "He read my first book, which was very sweet," Conrad says, laughing. "I told him he didn't have to read the rest. "I don't think he's the target market!"
The paperback edition of Conrad's third L.A. Candy book, Sugar and Spice, went on sale yesterday, April 5th.
Speidi must be dying - I love it! I'm so happy for Lauren. Living well and being successful really is the best revenge. :)

Lauren Conrad Reveals A New Clothing Line is In The Works!

If you are anything like us, you have been a big fan of Lauren Conrad, once known as "LC" on Laguna Beach and you sported TEAM LAUREN tees from Hollister. But now, our Lauren is all grown up and has so many amazing things going on in her life --- from life after The Hills to her new collection, Kohl's line and latest books --- Lauren Conrad is a name you just can't forget.
How has life been since The Hills?
It's been great! It's always a little scary to make a big change like I did when I decide to leave the show, but I don't regret it one bit. Since I've left I've discovered a new love... writing! I have had such an amazing experience writing my novels and touring the country for signings. It's been an exciting year and I've learned so much.
Also, I have been having such great time working on my Kohl's line and have been blown away by the support I have received. Fashion has always been what I have loved to do and I feel so fortunate to be working with such a great partner. Aside from that, I have really enjoyed having a personal life and the opportunity to do a little traveling. All and all, I'd say it's been a great year.
We just finished reading your second book, (HarperCollins) and of course, it kept us wanting more -- How did the idea of your LA Candy Series come about? Was writing something you have always been interested in?
The concept of the LA Candy series was more of a compromise than an original thought. I was interested in writing a dating book (sort of a what-not-to-do for someone who's made all of the mistakes) and HarperCollins wanted me to write a tell-all about The Hills. Since I wasn't comfortable revealing the secrets of others we began talking about a fictional series. This way I could tell the story of a journey similar to the my own without calling anyone out...but still include insider knowledge from someone who's lived it.
How are the books [related] to your personal life - was that the inspiration?
I wrote from experiences and I also based characters on a compilation of people I had met in my life but the books aren't real life. I had a ton of fun playing make-believe.
I have to say, you have always been a great decorator -- your house on television and apartment was very chic. Is a decorating or lifestyle book something you may do in the future?
It's funny that you say that because I have always struggled with decorating. I can throw an outfit together in 30 seconds flat but show me an empty room or blank wall and I'm stumped. I have learned a few things along the way like...the color you paint your walls will reflect off your skin (example: green wall make u look sick), flowers are a great way to add a pop color to any room (peonies are the best), and flea markets are great for finding deals and original pieces. I would love to write a book about decorating because I would learn so much in the process and then get to share it with others.
A few seasons ago we saw your collection during LA Fashion Week. Do you plan
on showing again at some point?

I am currently starting up a new clothing line with one of my best friends. It's a contemporary line similar to my original but with a different look. The first season we are designing is Fall 2011.
You always seem to have a lot going on - never a dull moment! What is up next for you?
I have a book tour coming up in the beginning of October. Actually it's a double tour for my third novel, Sugar & Spice, and a Style guide that I wrote (LaurenConradStyle). Besides that I have the clothing lines to keep me busy, but I am also looking for the perfect project to produce. I've always loved the production side of entertainment and would love to be a part of it. I just want to be careful to select a show that I'll love. I want my first one to be great!

Lauren Conrad to Pen "Darker" Novel Series

Lauren Conrad is going rogue.
The L.A. Candy author says that for her next work of literary mastery, she's planning a darker spinoff of sorts featuring one of her current characters.
"I'm going to take Madison from the book and do a darker series," she said at The Hills finale party. "I already wrote a little bit and it was really fun."
L.A. Candy focuses on Jane Roberts, a young woman who moves to Hollywood, gets a job with an event planner and eventually lands a reality show.
That all sounds vaguely familiar ...
Like LC, Jane isn't always happy with her fame and the attention it brings, while her friend Madison takes the opposite approach and just eats it up.
Again, feels like we've heard this somewhere.
"I think it would be really fun to do it the other way, with someone who loves it," Conrad said. "Someone who loves fame and plays the game well."
She certainly has enough real-life material to draw on.
Lauren is still working on the third book in the Candy series, but we're already looking forward to reading the exploits of crazy Heidi Montag ... er, Madison.
